Toolbox: Tools and Principles

Decision support system (DSS) based on known and observed relationships and impacts found in case studies were established by the midpart of the project.

The DSS was tested and developed further with a larger audience during the course of the project. The design of DSS is based on multi-criteria properties and also other such systems may be applied.

The established system was linked with GIS maps, which enables production of alternative maps for spatial planners. The final output is a mapping tool, which can provide optional usability maps for waters.

General goals

  • Providing tools, which take into account sustainable use of water
  • Analyzing contradictions and mutual interests of different stakeholders

General means

  • Active cooperation between different stakeholders (workshops, expert discussions)
  • Application of multicriteria decision support systems in different case studies
  • Developing a toolbox for river basin and spatial planners

Outcomes

  • The chapter "Demands and Opportuities for ICT-tools in Integrated River Basin Management - Examples of some potential tools applied in the Baltic Sea Region" of the Watersketch Handbook can be downloaded here

  • If you are interested in applying the tools, you can visit the Watersketch Toolbox at: toolbox.watersketch.net
