On behalf of the Baltic Sea Region INTERREG III B project Watersketch partners, the organising committee is pleased to invite you to its final event European Symposium on Spatial Planning Approaches to Sustainable River Basin Management. The symposium will take place at the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi , Finland , on 14-15 May 2007, when the spring is coming to Lapland.

The overall aim of the symposium is to present and discuss some of the cross-cutting issues on spatial planning approaches to sustainable river basin management and to present the results of the Watersketch project. The symposium welcomes river basin managers, environmental and spatial planners and researchers as well as interested persons in the domains of the symposiums scope.

We look forward to meet you in Rovaniemi in May 2007!


THEMES

Main themes to be presented and discussed in the symposium are:

    • European legislation on water courses and spatial planning
    • Approaches to sustainable river basin management
    • Decision-support tools and systems related to river basin planning
    • Public participation and the Water Framework Directive
    • Environmental data management
    • GIS in river basin management and planning

    Contributions on other topics of sustainable river basin management are also welcome.


VENUE

The symposium will be held at the Arctic Centre in the heart of city of Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland near the Arctic Circle . The Arctic Centre is a research and science centre with multidisciplinary research, science centre exhibitions, information service and a library. The centre is a part of the University of Lapland. The building of the centre, so called Arktikum, is located on the banks of the river Ounasjoki and is one of Lapland 's most visited tourist attractions. PARTICIPATION FEE
